Success is about paying it forward

Every now and then we need to recharge our batteries. This is my weekend to go do just that. And before I head off I wanted to write about giving.

Imagine…

You made a choice to really go for your dreams in life. You decided today to live your dream instead of allowing life just happen to you. Today (right now) you made a conscious choice to be, do, or have what you dream of and have dreamed of for so long.

Now…

Bound five years forward.

Dateline: April 13, 2017

You are living your dream. You planned, took action everyday, adjusted along the way until you arrived at your definition of success and the life you dreamed of on April 13, 2012.

What do you have? Who is around you? Where do you live? What do you do?

All great questions and not the right questions. Sure life is about getting what we desire and it is about so much more. Life is about giving. If you go get all the things you dream of and forget to give back you never really completed 100% of your dream.

If you are smart enough to think it, choice it, work for it, and live it, you are obligated to help someone else do the same. That is what I believe. I do not believe we work in a vacuum. We need others to help us find our way and to live our dreams. It is rare when we do it alone if at all.

So visualize five years forward. You have it all. You are living the  life you imagined on April 13, 2012. Now, what would you give back to the world when this comes true. It doesn’t have to be money. What you give might be bigger than that… so share.

What would you give back on April 13, 2017 and why is that so important for you?

The traveler

The road of life is long.

How you travel that road is entirely up to you. Your travels will indicate your rate of joy, happiness, and success, or sadness.

You could choose to reject your travels and see only the litter along the way. The choice is yours. You are in control of your destiny and your happiness.

Here is proof as I know it.

Childhood was hard. My step-father was a tyrant. He physically and mentally abused everyone under the same roof as him. My step-brothers took it personal. They allowed that demon to capture their souls, their life. One step-brother is dead. One step-brother is in prison. One step-brother keeps failing. Might I say he is the most likely to fail forward. I too could have chosen this road travelled and I did not.

One day some years ago the youngest of the step-brothers found me after a twenty-five year separation. I had tried so hard to leave those people and their litter behind. Doing the right thing I invited this bother to my home. He looked around and asked, “How do you have all these things and I have nothing? We lived in the same house, shared the same bedroom, and witnessed hell together.” I didn’t know what to say other than, “I made a choice to go a different path.”

He has held me up on a pedestal as a hero. He shared stories of how my humor and sense of strength in those dark moments as a child inspired him. I had no idea. In my mind I was just a scared little boy who ran as fast as I could away from those moments of dysfunction with my Mom and sister in hand.

I would say I am no hero. And as life has unfolded for me I see the fog in my mind clearing. I am seeing the specific reason I have been put here on earth. I feels very specific.

People in need keep appearing in my life. I need to start taking the hint and engaging to genuinely help others. Deep in my heart that feels like what I am meant to do while travelling my own road of life.

This is how I have come to realize that it is my mission to help others visioneer a life that matters. By helping others I will also be helping myself.

I am inspired to find a way to make this happen for myself and for those I have the opportunity to touch in a positive way throughout this coming year.
