The X factor of success… Just what in the heck is that?
From my experience we spend loads of time seeking out success. To clarify, success is not the same for every person. One person seeks success for fame and fortune; another seeks success related to positive relationships with their family. We are different and different is good. Different makes life interesting.
So, a simple definition of success might be the “pursuit of happiness”. That seems to apply to both extremes of success as defined by different people.
Success gurus ask us to see our future success. They ask us to make a plan, work the plan, adjust, and reward ourselves as we trek forward toward our success destination. The workplace runs in a similar way. Have a vision, set a mission, and create a strategic plan that includes goals, measures, and rewards.
Whoa!! Stop the bus I want off.
I find people tend to toil. They get caught up in the details of the plan to achieve success. All that rigid planning seems to be the doom that explodes the reality of actually reaching your success destination at some point in the future.
There is a better way. There is what I call the Success X Factor.
First, throw away all those rigid detailed plans. They are bogging you down. Those plans are overwhelming you. You just worked your tail off all day and now you come home to more plans about finding success. Jump off the crazy bus.
Next, grab a 3 x 5 index card and write out your success intention in one clear concise forward thinking sentence. I call these your transformation anchors. The gurus call them affirmations. Never mind the name.
Here is an example for someone interested in succeeding at publishing a book.
“I am now a paid author who has touched the lives of those who read my books.”
Get it! Got it! Good!
Now, put it in your pocket. This index card has become your travel mate for all time or until it becomes a true statement and you are actually a paid author. Take what I call the three a day vitamin. This means you pull out that card, read it, see it, and live it in your mind three times a day.
Finally, take time everyday to practice. This means write if you intent to be a paid author. This means say I love you if your intention is to be a great husband, wife, father, mother, or grandparent. You get the point. Do something everyday that brings you closer to your final destination of success.
All of those things I just wrote about are great… and still not the Success X Factor. The X factor is… drum roll please…
Choice!!
If you see your success and never choose to do anything about reaching that intention you fail. You must choose to stir the energy in your heart, in your every fiber and move toward your true intention.
When I was down and out many years back, I had lost my drive. I had give up in my own mind. I had declared, “game, set, match” in my mind.
I had made a choice. See we are always making choices. The trick is to make choices that empower your positive energy and create friction that pulls you toward your success intention.
Apply the Success X Factor to your life. Make a choice to find and live your success. Create that 3 x 5 index card with your transformation anchor and use it every day.
I am here to help. If you have a dream and seem stuck creating your transformation anchor, please email me and I will offer up some thoughts.
Now… Glasses up! Here’s to your success.
