Social Media and the Photographer

All social media is not created equal. A bold statement by a photographer who has been around the block regard the use of social media to highlight and promote my work.

I have used Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, and most recently Google Plus. My first choice is Google+ with Pinterest coming in a close second at this point.

First, check out my way cool “After Hours” image and then continue on below to my three key reasons for using Google Plus.

After Hours

After Hours by Spencer McDonald

1. G+ is the the hot spot to highlight your photography and connect with other like minded photographers.

2. G+ offers you many common business tools you may need in one spot.

3. My family and close friends are on Facebook and I don’t mix business and pleasure while marketing. Take your photography or any business venture serious. I suspect you will gain more traction when you are focused. Google Plus helps you focus better on connecting with the right crowd.

If you do not have a G+ account yet I recommend it. It is easy as go to google.com, sign up, and begin posting your own pictures, or connect with specific groups to highlight your photography or art.

Come on in and see my Google Plus page. Bring your favorite Starbucks drink and give me four thumbs up if you like what you see. That means you have to bring a friend. Then book add me to your circle after you sign up and I will add you back. And finally, please book mark my blog and come back often to watch as this blog evolves and grows.

    I have G+ but I don’t think I really utilize it as I should.

TC – I have nearly 500 follower now on Google. It take commitment to be active on the site. I target 5 new comments every day. I also am seeking genuine comments that are more then “Nice Work.” I want to add value to those I interact with. Maybe in some small way they will remember me and remain connected to my art or share with others.
